On the quiet practice of writing
Some mornings I write because I have something to say. Most mornings I write to find out what I might say. Writing is less revelation, more excavation. I sit down with a cup of tea and a half-formed feeling, and I dig until the feeling has edges, a name, a shape I can hand to someone else. I do not believe in waiting for inspiration. I believe in showing up. Inspiration is a shy animal — it only comes out when it sees you have left the door open for long enough. This blog is my open door.
